Once again Academy Deputy Director David McIntyre has prepared the schedule of PPCT Instructor Certification and Re-certification Seminars well in advance. Chief McIntyre’s support of PPCT classes has been strong, and his efforts to provide quality Subject Control/Use of Force seminars at the academy are greatly appreciated.

Later in this year (2013) the research conducted on Threat Pattern Recognition (TPR) will be included in the latest edition of the PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Manual. This new edition of the Instructor Manual will be available for all DT Instructor Seminars in 2014. Subsequently, this material will be added to other PPCT Instructor Manuals, including the one used for the Tactical Firearms Instructor Program.

In 2014 the academy will continue to host PPCT Instructor Certification Seminars for both the Law Enforcement/Military and Civilian arenas. The Law Enforcement/Military classes include Defensive Tactics Instructor, Ground Avoidance/Ground Escape (GAGE) Instructor, and Spontaneous Knife Defense (SKD) Instructor. The other Instructor Certification Seminars are open to both Civilian and Law Enforcement/Military personnel. These include Violent Patient Management (VPM) Instructor, School Safety & Healthy Children (SS&HC) Instructor, Disruptive Student Management (DSM) Instructor, and Sexual Harassment, Assault and Rape Prevention (SHARP) Instructor.

There will be no increase in tuition for the 2014 Instructor Certification Seminars.

Since these seminars have attracted participants from locations as far away as Western Canada and California, the expenses involved in attending often exceed the cost of the training. Because of this, Jack often conducts PPCT Instructor Certification Seminars at locations other that the Allegheny County Police Training Academy.
